Not even a thousand words can describe the natural beauty and diversity of this wonderful area that runs along the coastline of the Southern Cape!
Towns like Albertinia,Stil Bay,Jongensfontein, Mossel Bay, Great Bark River,Little Brak River, Herolds Bay, George, Victoria Bay, Wilderness, Sedgefield, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay
The Garden Route runs from Heidelberg and Witsand in the west parallel along the N2 highway to the Storms River in the Tsitsikamma and includes towns like Albertinia,Stil Bay,Jongensfontein, Mossel Bay, Great Bark River,Little Brak River, Herolds Bay, George, Victoria Bay, Wilderness, Sedgefield, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
The area is truly one of a kind – boasting with long sandy Beaches, rugged Mountains, indigenous Forests, Lakes, Rivers, and Valleys.
The weather of the Garden Route
The weather is moderate with hot summers to cold winters. The area also has the richest rainfall in South Africa brought in by the humid sea-winds from the Indian Ocean.
There is a large variety of species of Flora that can be viewed from Protea’s, Erica’s, Vygies, Pin-cushions, other types of Fynbos to Aloes.
Three of South Africa’s top hiking trails also are to be found in the area being the Otter trail, Dolphin trail and the Tsitsikamma hiking trail.
Nature reserves of the Garden Route
The Garden Route is also home to 10 Nature reserves, as well as marine reserves which are home to the Seals, Dolphins and other marine life. The Southern Right Whales also calves here in winter to spring. (July to November)
