The Judges had a tough time on Monday selecting 12 finalists out of allthe entries for the Miss. Garden Route and Klein Karoo competition.

Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo will be crowned on 1 October at the world renowned Pinnacle Point Golf & Beach Estate.   The eminent lead singer Nicholis Louw will be performing at the Gala event!  Along with him well-known (Pasella TV presenter) Eloise Cupido,  who will act upon as MC. Willie Venter (Famous for You-Showcase) will be conducting the choreography, Natasha Sutherland’s (author and actor), previous Miss SA’s and other surprise guests in support of the plight of battered women and children all over the Southern Cape!!

The Wildebraam Berry Estate will be open for berry picking Mondays-Saturdays.  Visitors can also do a tasting of our delicious liqueurs and deli. As we approach our Berry Harvesting season, which is mid-November to the end of December, we heard from our Berry Buyers that they cannot buy our berries this year!  This is exactly what we need to start something new as we are known for our thinking out of the box – as if there are no paradigms. We have sufficient deep freeze facilities on the farm so we are geared to sell frozen berries and we can deliver anywhere in the Western Cape. Special arrangements need to be made for further deliveries than the Western Cape borders.

Riandi du Preez was crowned at a gala event in the Mossel Bay town hall on Saturday Miss Teen Langeberg Mall 2010

The fairest of the Garden Route’s teenagers. Riandi du Preez (14, middle
back) of Oudtshoorn is Miss Teen Langeberg Mall 2010. She was crowned at a
gala event in the Mossel Bay town hall on Saturday. This Grade 8 pupil at
Oudtshoorn High, was the only finalist from the Ostrich Capital and she made
sure that she wowed the judges with her natural beauty and serene smile. Her
two princesses come from George. They are Petro Rossouw (16, middle left)
and Anja Nieuwenhuys (16, middle right).

Marchelle Wessels was crowned Miss Charity

The other finalist that walked off with special awards are (back left):
Marchelle Wessels (17), who was crowned Miss Charity (she had managed to
secure the largest chunk of the R23 000 that the finalist raised for Mossel
Bay Child Welfare) and Mandi Bartlett (17, back right) who was crowned Miss
Congeniality by her fellow contestants. They are both from Mossel Bay. In
front is Lauren-Joy Jansen (14) of George who walked away with the Miss
Photogenic title.

Dancing on the tables to the beat of the Sixties music is something that gives you a feeling of freedom and excitement.

SA’s Mr Music, Mike McCullagh at the Kalahari Restaurant & Theatre in George

Be sure to join in with SA’s Mr Music, Mike McCullagh who has been around since pa fell of the bus. McCullagh’s Workshop rings a very familiar bell when it comes to the music industry and the man himself will be in action for three shows on 21, 22 and 23 October at the Kalahari Restaurant & Theatre in George.

60 Something started at the Dock Road Café at Cape Town’s Waterfront and was an instant success. The show ran for four years to packed houses, performing over 1 200 shows to more than 250 000 patrons. The show reminds audiences of the birth of Rock ‘n Roll. Its unique blend of talent, zest and high energy was just the tonic theatre-goers in the New South Africa were looking for and the name Sixty Something became a buzz word amongst  party animals.

Now, in 2010, 18 years after its beginning, audiences will once again have the 60’s brought back to life, featuring most of the same cast of the original production. As before, patrons will be guided through the years of the Swinging Sixties and all its vibrant changes.

Hard grinding rock sounds of the Rolling Stones, beatles and others ath the Kalahari Theatre

From the early rockers like The Drifters, Wilson Pickett, Roy Orbison, Ray Charles, Cliff Richard and the Everly Brothers through the Mersey Sound of the Beatles, the Hollies, and the Searchers, to the hard grinding rock sounds of the Rolling Stones.. The lyrical era of Bob Dylan, The Bee Gees and the Beach Boys are also covered.

Finally, as the 60’s draws to a close, the musical rock tones that were to epitomize the 70’s are also featured with groups like Creedance Clearwater Revival, the Doors, The Four Tops and The Supremes. Female superstars like Petula Clark, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Cher and Dusty Springfield among others, are also included, as the show sticks faithfully to its original repertoire.

Using the narrator as a tour guide, audiences will see the change of musical styles and artists flowing from the so-called “goodness” of the 50’s to the total hippies and wildness of the late 60’s.

To complete the “Dream Team” is the phenomenally talented Kyle Petersen on keyboards and Neil Peyton on bass guitar. .

Mossel Bay Fishing  Charters reports good catches of Kabeljou

We in Mossel Bay have greeted the winter and with that the weaker fishing months. The older fishermen believe that the months without a “r” in their names, (May ,June, July and August) are not very good for fishing. Although this believe exists, we at Mossel Bay Fishing Charters had a fairly good season with some odd Kabeljou catches and good red fish catches like Red Roman and Miss Lucy. Hake was also not to bad and we got the hake not very far out at sea.

As it is getting warmer now we are very confident that the catches will increase. Good Kabeljou catches are in sight. Especially the Big ones.

Beauty with a Purpose

The Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo 2010 beauty pageant, in aid of regional havens for battered and abused women and children, was officially launched at the begining of May by last years winner, Louise Muller from Mossel Bay (now a B Comm student at stellenbosch University). Louise was crowned as the face of the Garden Route at the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo 2009 gala event.

During the past six years, the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo event presented by the Garden Route Casino in collaboration with Die Burger and the ISP Group, has grown into a community driven event, combating women and child abuse within the Southern Cape. The gala event itself has become a must see  of the Garden Route event calendar with excellent entertainment and amazing setting.

The he Heart of the competition are the four shelters for abused women and children

The Heart of the competition are the four shelters for abused women and children that benefit from the funds generated through this event. The shelters are Creating Effective Families in Mossel Bay, Phambili in George, Malibingwe in Oudtshoorn and Women Who Care in Knysna. As part of the gala event build up residents from the different shelters get the opportunity to be turned into “a princess for a day” by make-overs conducted in the different towns.

Miss Teen Langeberg Mall Finalists

Twelve beautiful girls from the Southern Cape was chosen on Satruday to compete for the Miss Teen Langeberg Mall 2010 title.  Last year’s winner Demi-Leigh Nel-Pieters has done very well and she is one of the semi-finalists in the Miss Teen SA 2010 contest.

The gala evening takes place on 9 October in the Mossel Bay Town Hall. Beforehand the finalists will get involved in several projects to generate funds for Child Welfare in Mossel Bay.

During Saturday’s judging session the girls were not allowed to wear make-up or have their hair done. “This is a teenage competition and we wanted to see their natural beauty” Centre Manager, Ms Wendy Bezuidenhout said.

The Mall has purchased a table of 10 and plan on treating their staff and other role players on 25 September.“This is such a worthy cause where people get involve to better the life and circumstances of abused women and children. We ALL have to do our bit to take this project to higher levels” she added.

Apart from “putting her money where her mouth is”  and buying a table to support the Safe Homes project, Ms Bezuidenhout and the Mall have  embraced the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo project in more than one way.

Langeberg Mall sponsors eight make-over candidates from Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn

Not only have they come to the party in a big way with sponsoring no less than eight make-over candidates from the CEF (Creating Effective Families) Safe House in Mossel Bay and Malibongwe Safe House in Oudtshoorn, they have also donated R10 000 cash in support of the project. Each candidate received vouchers for clothing. The latter was worn in the AFTER photo shoot. The women were allowed to keep the clothing.

“If we can get every business in town to buy a table, the marquee will definitely be too small and the coffers of the Safe Houses will bulge” she added and challenged all the retail businesses to get involve and buy tickets. “The best is that ALL the ticket money go to the Safe Homes and you are still guaranteed a fun evening filled with top artists, beautiful girls, unique designers, celebs as well as eats, juice, wine, magazines and gifts to take home. All of that for only R150. “Now if that is not a bargain in any terms, then I don’t know” she added.

Tydens die projek is vier vroue van elk van die vier Veilige Huise in die Suid-Kaap wat deur die proujek ondersteun word, gekies en vir ‘n dag lank soos koninklikes behandel. Die vier Veilige Huise is CEF van Mosselbaai, Malibongwe van Oudtshoorn, Phambili van George en Women Who Care van Knynsna.

Elk van die vier Huise kies ‘n finalis en dié vier vroue word volgende week deur ‘n paneel, waarvan Natasha Sutherland een van die beoordelaars is, ontmoet en die wenner word tydens die gala-aand op Saterdag 25 September aangekondig. Benewens die R1 000  kontant wat deur die Casino aan die wenner geskenk word, is daar ook produkpryse wat die wenner ontvang. Elke finalis wat tydens die projek mooigemaak is, het ook produkpryse ontvang en is op heerlike middagetes getrakteer. Die deelnemers van Mosselbaai en Oudtshoorn is deur die winkels by Langeberg Mall getrakteer.

Aletta het beslis ervaar dat ‘n goed versorgde vrou ‘n sierraad is. Sy het behoorlik geblom nadat haar pragtige hare deur die stilis by Lucerna Haarsalon op Mosselbaai versorg is. Hierna is haar grimering deur Thandi by Edgars by Langeberg Mall gedoen en toe het sy die winkels ingevaar om haar koopbewyse vir klere te gebruik. Volgens Adri-Ann Seconds van die Casino wat vir Aletta vergesel het, het hulle behoorlik van een winkel na ‘n ander geloop op soek na die beste kopies. “Aletta het haar bewyse baie slim en oordeelkundig gebruik en het pragtig en ontspanne gelyk na haar pamperlang-sessie” het Adri-Ann vertel.

Aletta het onlangs ‘n drie week lange kursus in ouerskap voltooi en konsentreer nou eers op die helingsproses vir haarself en haar drie dogters. Sy is nog nie seker wat sy gaan doen wanneer sy die Veilige Huis verlaat nie, maar sy is positief ingestel op die toekoms en net vol lof vir die ondersteuning wat CEF en sy perosneel haar bied.

“Sê ook vir die lesers hulle moet hierdie projek ondersteun deur kaartjies te koop. Hulle sal nooit besef wat dit vir ‘n vrou doen om speisaal te voel en ook so behandel te word nie” het sy gesê en bygevoeg dat sy hoop dat die publiek die harde werk agter die skerms sal raaksien en besef dat hulle ook deel kan word met hul bydraes.

New partner could open the world for the winner of the Miss Garden Route 2010 contest.
The Miss Garden Route competition, which was originally started as a beauty contest and then moved on to become a “Beauty with A Purpose” project, is getting a new partner, which could open up the world for the 2010 winner.

Winner of Miss Garden Route 2010 to be embraced in the Miss Earth S A Competition

“Beauty with a Mission” is the slogan of the Miss Earth competition and national director of Miss Earth South Africa, me Catherine Constantinides, has reached out to the local competition to embrace the winner of Miss Garden Route 2010 in the Miss Earth SA competition.

Denise Schoeman from Knysna, was  a runner-up in the Miss Earth SA 2008 competition

“We are really excited about this dimension of our competition” coordinator and organizer Ms Tryana Potgieter told us. “One of our previous winners, the beautiful Denise Schoeman from Knysna, was also a runner-up in the Miss Earth SA 2008 competition. Our girls are the cream of the crop and they deserve to be given the opportunity to conquer the world” she added.

The Miss Earth competition will take place in Vietnam during November – December 2010

The Miss Earth competition, which has been running for 10 years, is considered one of the three largest beauty contests in the world. The 2010 competition will take place in Vietnam during November and December this year.

The Gala Evening for Miss Garden Route 2010 will take place 25 September

Ms Constantinides plans on attending the gala evening of Miss Garden Route on Saturday 25 September at the prestigious Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf Club and she will most probably be escorted by Chanel Grantham (20), Miss Earth SA 2009. Chanel is also known as the Green Ambassadress of South Africa.

According to Chanel, from Cape Town, she was drawn to the competition not because of the glamour, but because of what it stands for. “We do get our hands dirty. We go into communities and actively make a difference” she said.

“And that is exactly what our girls also do” Potgieter added and said that the 12 finalist visit the safe house for battered women and children, as well as other identified projects in the Southern Cape. Louise Muller, Miss GR & KK 2009 has been back to some of the shelters on numerous occasions. Even when she was only a finalist, she baked heart shaped cookies and wrapped them as gifts for the women in the safe houses. She has also been back to donate clothing and little luxury gifts to the women.

“Our beauty with a purpose combined with Christina’s beauty with a mission can only be a winning recipe for making our country a better place” Potgieter added.

The 2010 winner will be invited to take part as a finalist in the Miss Earth SA competition.

George Community invited to attend Trial Show at Kalahari Restaurant and Theatre

The trial run at the restaurant and theatre will be on Saturday 4 September and the community has been invited to come and enjoy a FREE show on that evening. The theatre has already come up with a star studded line-up. Some of the productions will include the new Nataniël show, which is at present playing to full house capacities at the Emperor’s Palace, the Buddy Holly Show, Vulcano with On-Que and the premier of Steve Hofmeyr’s latest show Duisend en Een to name but a few.

Casper de Vries has also committed himself as well as Sharleen Surtie-Richards with her local Shirley Valentyn and theatre diva Sandra Prinsloo with her sell out performance of Die Naaimasjien. The Kalahari Restaurant Theatre will change the cultural atmosphere in the Garden Route  – that is for sure.
