Holiday Resort in Hartenbos only 800 meters from the Hartenbos beach

On Friday 19 August 2011 I paid a visit to Dibiki Holiday Resort in Hartenbos. It was a lovely, sunny day and as I drove into the resort I could feel the relaxed holiday atmosphere in the air. As I parked my vehicle I was greeted by one of Dibiki’s own “watch dogs”, a friendly yet curious hen.

Dibiki Holiday Resort, Garden Route

Dibiki Holiday Resort lies on the left hand side of the Hartenbos River. The plots potential was first seen in 200 by the Pretorius family. In 2000 part of the land was vacant expect for the Jewish Camp and the Seventh Day Adventist Church. After the Pretorius family bought the land they had to apply for rezoning, as well as water and electricity. This was a difficult process and took the 3 years but today they are glad they did it.

Caravan Accommodation in Hartenbos

In December 2004 they could accommodate the first holidaymakers with caravans, ever since they have been fully booked during the December Holidays. When I heard that Dibiki is only 800 meters from the beach, I felt like walking to view it, the only obstacle in my way, my high heels. Dibiki is suitable for a peaceful holiday, not only close to a safe beach, but only 800 meters to the popular AKTV amphi theatre and Hartenbos shops by road Dibiki is only 4km to Hartenbos CBD.

During my interview with Martie I asked her how they came up with the name for their resort. The Pretorius family wanted a unique name and wanted something like rest a while. They then decided to name it Dibiki. The family also used names like “sit-ibiki”, for the “Ladies” and “staan-ibiki” for the ‘Gents” . The bar is called “drink-ibiki baie”, drink a lot. I think the names will be operating to local and overseas tourist.

Op Vrydag 19 Augustus 2011, het ek ‘n draai gaan maak by die gewilde vakansie oord in Hartenbos, Dibiki Vakansie Oord.

Dit was ‘n heerlike sonskyn dag in Hartenbos en soos ek by Dibiki ingery het, kon ek byna onmiddellik die rustige vakansie atmosfeer in die lug voel. By my motor was ek gegroet deur een van Dibiki se eie “waghonde”, ‘n vriendelike tog nuuskierige hoender

Dibiki Vakansie Oord in Hartenbos, Tuinroete

Dibiki Vakansie Oord lê op ‘n prag stuk grond links van die Hartenbos Rivier. Die stuk grond se potensiaal was raak gesien deur die Pretorius familie in 2000. Destyds was daar nog nie veel aan hierdie kant van die rivier nie, slegs die Jode Kamp en die Sewendedag Adventiste Kerk, verder was daar slegs bosse. Toe die Pretorius familie die grond gekoop het moes hulle eers aansoek doen vir hersonering, kraglyne en water aanlê. Dit was ‘n opdraende stryd wat byna drie jaar geduur het, maar vandag is hul glad nie spyt nie.

Karavaan Akkommodasie in Hartenbos

In Desember 2004 kon hulle met trots hul eerste karavane akkommodeer en sedertdien is Dibiki Vakansie Oord elke Desember propvol.
Toe ek hoor hoe naby Dibiki van die Hartenbos Strand geleë is, was ek baie lus en durf die 800m paadjie strand toe aan, al wat in my pad gestaan het, was my hoë hakke. Dibiki is ideal geleë vir ‘n rustige vakansie en is nie net loop afstand van ‘n veilige strand nie, maar is ongeveer 800m, met die treinspoor langs, na die gewilde AKTV Amfi-teatre sowel as die Hartenbos winkels. Selfs pad langs is Dibiki slegs 4km vanaf die Hartenbos winkels en restaurante geleë.

Tuinroete Vakansie Akkommodasie

Terwyl ek en Martie sit en gesels oor die ontwikkeling en die suksesse van Dibiki besef ek dat ek en seker baie ander daarbuite seker wonder wat beteken “Dibiki” nou eintlik.  Volgens Martie Pretorius het hul as familie saam gesit en kop gekrap oor ‘n unieke tog Afrikaanse naam vir die oord. Van die voorstelle was onder andere “rus ‘n bietjie”en vanwee die naam, Dibiki. Die familie het toe besluit om name soos “ontspan-ibiki”, toer-ibiki”, “sit-ibiki”(wat die naam is vir die vrouens kleedkamers) en staan-ibiki (die naam vir die mans kleedkamers). Die enigste plek in die oord wat nie, ‘ibiki is nie, is die kroeg, hy staan bekend as drink ibiki baie. Ek dink dat toeriste, plaaslik sowel as oorsee hierdie uniek aanslag geniet.
Dibiki gaan groot in vir spitbraai en maak vir van elke spit ‘n besonderse geleentheid.

Requirements for mosaic

• A blank item you wish to mosaic, for example a wooden frame or other decorative object.

• A selection of mosaic tiles and/or other tiles.

• Cold glue (for wood)

• Flexible tile adhesive

• Tile nippers

• Grout

• Bonding liquid (to mix with grout if you want a waterproof item)

Instructions for Mosaic

Draw your design on the blank.  It is best to use a fairly simple design.  Cut the tiles with the nipper so that they will fit the design.  Glue the tiles in place with cold glue (if it is a wooden blank and it is going to be displayed indoors) or with flexible tile adhesive if your blank is a metal or plastic item, or if it is an item made from cement.  Leave about one millimeter space between tiles.

Drying Time for Mosaic

When finished, leave the item to dry thoroughly.  This can take from 24 to 48 hours.

Mosaic Craft mixing Method

Mix the grout according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Use water if the item is going to be displayed indoors, or use bonding liquid if it is going to be used outdoors. The mixture must have the consistency of toothpaste.

Grout for Mosaic

Work the grout in over the tiles with an old credit card or your fingers (be careful – the edges of the tiles can be sharp).  Make sure all the gaps between the tiles are filled.  Remove most of the excess grout using your old credit card or a rubber squeegee.  Tidy up the edges as well, using your fingers.

Leave for about 15 to 20 minutes.  Use an old damp sponge or an old damp cloth to wipe off the rest of the excess grout.  Be careful not to wipe away the grout between the tiles.  If there are stubborn bits of grout stuck to the tiles, use a plastic knife or an ice cream stick to scratch it off. When the item is completely dry, polish it with paper towels.

Voila!  Your own beautiful piece of art.
